Munkaze Washing Station
The Munkaz Washing Station was founded by Ephrem Sebatigita. Ephrem is a well-respected man in Burundi with over 30 years of experience in Burundi Coffee. In fact, his grandfather Ntirandekura was among the first coffee growers in the province of Kayanza in 1938. Ephrem built the Munkaze Washing Station on his land in 2013 and started out with a yearly production of 110 MT of cherries.

As an engineer, his knowledge and experience in the Burundi coffee industry has helped build and manage most of the well known public and private coffee institutions of the country. He works with two farmer cooperatives through this station : Nzobiyaga, which means; ‘I am happy to talk about it‘ and Twaranyuzwe, which means ‘we have been convinced‘.

This washing station has brought forth some of the finest coffees from the Kayanza region and has been a driver for innovation.
